Fukushima Radiation Plumes in the Ocean Headed to the Pacific Coast

NukeProfessional (who is strongly anti-nuke) updates us on where the radiation plumes in the Pacific are in relation to North America.

The plumes are getting close. Read his post

Meanwhile, cesium-137 levels fail to drop in the ocean near Fukushima.

And the levels are not likely to drop in the future because of all the contaminated water being produced by the plant. There is no way to recapture all the water used to cool the plant and it ends up in the ocean and groundwater.

AP Interview: Japan nuke plant water worries rise By MARI YAMAGUCHI | Associated Press – Thu, Oct 25, 2012 http://news.yahoo.com/ap-interview-japan-nuke-plant-water-worries-rise-064339732.html

[Excerpted] Goto, the nuclear engineer, believes it will take far longer than TEPCO's goal of two years to repair all the holes in the reactors. The plant also would have to deal with contaminated water until all the melted fuel and other debris is removed from the reactor — a process that will easily take more than a decade. He said TEPCO's roadmap for dealing with the problem is "wishful thinking." "The longer it takes, the more contaminated water they get," he said [end excerpt]

Japan's Skilled Veterans Corps is a group of retired skilled professionals who are committed to stabilizing the Fukushima plant. The have commented about the ongoing ocean contamination.

The founder of the Skilled Veterans Corps recently remarked that the fuel from Fukushima reactors may be in powder form, as reported by Enenews:

“I Don’t Know What Would Happen”: Fuel from Fukushima reactors may be powder — If so, work almost impossible (AUDIO)

Majia here:  if it is powder, then it is already in the ocean spreading and entering the water cycle (see here)

Perhaps the powdered core is a component in the highly radioactive black soil being detected around Japan (see here)

Recently, Japan found a most radioactive fish:

Record high radiation found in Fukushima fish: TEPCO http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_asiapacific/view/1248807/1/.html

[excerpted] A fish contaminated with radiation levels more than 2,500 times the legal limit has been caught near Japan's crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, its operator said on Friday. Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) said caesium equivalent to 254,000 becquerels per kilogramme -- or 2,540 times more than the government seafood limit -- was detected in a "murasoi" fish.
